A teacher who lured a 16-year-old boy with a false promise of a scholarship only to molest him will spend the next 15 years in prison.
Fredrick Oundo,28, was convicted and sentenced by Chief Magistrate Bernard Ochoi of the Milimani Children’s Court after the prosecution proved beyond doubt that he defiled the boy in Kawangware.
The court heard that the accused, a trusted teacher, approached the student with assurances of helping him secure educational sponsorship.
Instead, he manipulated the child into a sexual relationship, taking advantage of the boy’s innocence and ambition.
The victim told the court that Oundo introduced him to people as his “wife” and compelled him to perform indecent acts--conduct the court described as a “grave betrayal of trust.”
In sentencing, Chief Magistrate Ochoi said teachers who prey on minors under the guise of mentorship deserve no mercy.
He noted that such behaviour damages the reputation of the teaching profession and destroys the lives of children.
“This court will not hesitate to impose stiff penalties on adults who exploit minors, especially those under their care or authority,” he ruled.
The prosecution, led by Ms Linda Ndambiri and Ms Grace Musambi, said the conviction should serve as a warning to others who use their professional positions to prey on vulnerable children.
Oundo was also found guilty of compelling an indecent act with a child.
