200 students get free health care services ahead of new school calendar

The initiative offers an opportunity for children to get treated and check their medical condition before going back to schools in 2025.

About 200 school going children from different schools in Machakos County received free medical care at The Ngoo Sya Wendo Clinic in Isinga location in Kangundo sub-County.

The free medical clinic was organised by the US-based Kenyan philanthropist Dr Vincent Kituku.

The children aged between eight(8) to 17 received free medical check-ups, including free blood pressure checks, malaria tests, random glucose measurement, diabetes screening, optical and dental consultations, counseling, and dispensing medications.

The Ngoo Sya Wendo Clinic Coordinator Richard Musyoka said the aim of the medical camp was to reach out to the less fortunate in social economic status.

Dr Musyoka noted that the initiative offers an opportunity for children to get treated and check their medical condition before going back to schools in 2025.

Dr Musyoka said the pupils and students were also trained on how to set goals, basic hygiene, and taught importance of education.

He urged them to go for screening and treatment whenever free clinics are held near their homes.

The hospital will be offering free health and illness consultations, dental clinic and hypertension checkup for two weeks and after  the two week hospital will start  charging  all services and treatment.

Ngoo Sya Wendo is part of Caring Hearts and Hands of Hope, an American based NGO that was founded by Dr Kituku to assist needy students with high school and university tuition.

It operates Caring Hearts High Schools in Kangundo and Matungulu.

Dr Kituku said students need to be screened and treated before schools open in January so that they can focus on their studies without health problems.

He also said people need quality and timely health care services.

One of the beneficiaries of the initiative was Peter Munyao, a Form Two student in Kangundo High School who got permission from his parents to speak to the media.

Peter appreciated the organisers of the outreach for the good gesture.

He said, “I would like to congratulate the family for coming up with this project and I pray they sustain this kind of service to humanity over the years."
