Arsenal pulled off a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur in a fiercely contested North London derby on Sunday.
Gabriel Magalhaes’ second-half header was enough to secure the points for the Gunners, keeping them within striking distance of league leaders Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United staged an impressive comeback to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1, propelling themselves into third place in the Premier League standings.
In a highly charged match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Arsenal showed resilience and determination to overcome their local rivals.
Spurs started the game on the front foot, with Dejan Kulusevski forcing Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya into two early saves.
However, despite Tottenham’s early dominance, they failed to capitalise on their chances. Arsenal’s defence, led by William Saliba, was solid, especially after Dominic Solanke squandered a clear opportunity by hesitating too long in the box.
Missing key players Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice, Arsenal struggled to find their rhythm in the first half but eventually began to grow into the game.
Opportunities arose for the Gunners, with Kai Havertz’s header testing Guglielmo Vicario and Gabriel Martinelli squandering a chance after being played through by Leandro Trossard.
The game also saw controversy when Arsenal's Jurrien Timber avoided a potential red card for a rough challenge on Pedro Porro, leaving Spurs fans outraged.
The breakthrough came in the 64th minute when Gabriel Magalhaes rose unmarked from a corner and headed past Vicario, giving Arsenal a crucial lead.
Tottenham applied pressure in the final stages, but Arsenal held firm, limiting their opponents to long-range efforts.
Mikel Arteta praised his team for their ability to win despite not being at their best, highlighting their growing ability to grind out results, which could prove decisive in their title challenge.
In another Sunday clash, Newcastle United pulled off a thrilling comeback to defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at Molineux.
Wolves took the lead in the first half, with Mario Lemina finishing off a well-worked counterattack.
Wolves had controlled the game for large periods, with Newcastle struggling to create clear-cut chances.
Despite Wolves' dominance, they couldn’t extend their lead, and Newcastle took advantage late in the match.
Fabian Schar levelled the score in the 75th minute with a long-range shot that took a deflection off Wolves defender Craig Dawson, wrong-footing goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.
Just five minutes later, Harvey Barnes sealed the victory with a spectacular strike from outside the box, leaving Wolves stunned.
Wolves’ inability to hold onto their lead means they remain winless and sit near the bottom of the league table.
Newcastle’s win, however, sees them move up to third place, just behind Arsenal and Manchester City.
The dramatic turnaround showcased Newcastle's fighting spirit, as they managed to secure three points in a match where they had been second-best for much of the contest.
Both Arsenal and Newcastle’s gritty performances highlight their determination to remain contenders at the top of the Premier League table, as the season continues to unfold.
