Arsenal launched their 2025–26 campaign with a gritty 1–0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Riccardo Calafiori provided the decisive moment, heading home from a corner after a fumbled punch by United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir in the 13th minute.

Despite dominating possession (62 percent) and registering 22 attempts--seven(7) on target--United couldn’t break the Gunners’ defence.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya stood firm with vital saves, while new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo showcased promising form, though unable to convert their chances.

Elsewhere, Saturday was a day to remember for Sunderland, who celebrated a triumphant return to the Premier League by dismantling West Ham 3–0 at the Stadium of Light.

New manager Régis Le Bris oversaw a collective performance brimming with energy and precision.

Goals from Eliezer Mayenda, Dan Ballard, and Wilson Isidor, coupled with commanding midfield performances from Granit Xhaka, Noah Sadiki, and Habib Diarra, set a feisty tone for their season.

Meanwhile, Manchester City made a statement too. With standout play from summer signing Tijjani Reijnders, who notched a goal and an assist, plus goals from Erling Haaland (two) and Rayan Cherki, they overwhelmed Wolverhampton Wanderers 4–0.

City’s blend of clinical finishing and depth will pose an early warning for title rivals.

Next up for attention are Leeds United and Everton, who meet on Monday at Elland Road.

Leeds return to the top flight after a dominant Championship season, clinching the title with 100 points and showcasing their firepower with an average of 2.1 goals per game and a solid defensive record. Their home form in the second tier was formidable.

Everton, meanwhile, begin life at their new Bramley Moore Docks stadium under manager David Moyes, bolstered by the loan signing of Jack Grealish.

Though their pre-season lacked wins, the squad is showing signs of adjustment and ambition.

Statistically, Leeds have struggled against Everton in recent Premier League encounters, winning just once in their last 11 meetings and failing to beat them in five(5) straight.

Everton, on the other hand, remain unbeaten in their last five(5) visits to Elland Road.

Yet the context adds intrigue. Leeds are slight favourites according to prediction models, though many forecasts lean toward a draw or a narrow victory for either side.

With defenders like Branthwaite sidelined, Everton’s backline could be tested, while Leeds will look to their offensive rhythm and tactical solidity under manager Daniel Farke.
