The County Government of Uasin Gishu, through the Department of Health Services, inaugurated the Chepkongi Dispensary in Simat/Kapseret Ward, marking a significant stride in health care services for the residents.

This new facility highlights Governor Jonathan Bii’s commitment to ensuring all citizens have access to quality and timely medical care.

Promotive and Preventive Health Chief Officer Paul Wangwe, who presided over the opening of the dispensary, emphasized the dispensary's importance for the Chepkongi community, which previously relied on Kapteldon Sub-County Hospital for medical services.

“This dispensary will transform healthcare access for our residents, reinforcing our administration's commitment to improving healthcare across the county,” stated Dr Wangwe.

Simat/Kapseret ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Moses Kebenei on his part lauded the development and expressed optimism regarding the facility's potential to address various healthcare needs within the community.

“This facility will greatly strengthen our healthcare delivery, but it’s essential for the community to embrace the foundational steps for its operation,” said Mr Kebenei.

At the same time, the County government has embarked on audit of its workers after it emerged that some were drawing salaries without offering services.

According to Governor Bii, some workers ceased working for the devolved unit but continue reaping benefits they haven’t worked for.

“The ghost workers will soon be found out. I have directed auditing our staff and very soon we will get to know who the ghost workers are. I'm sure we have many ghost workers especially in the department," the county boss who succeeded Jackson Mandago.

According to Governor Bii, others have gone for further studies, some resigned while others are retired but still drawing salaries from the county coffers.

AVDelta News established that Governor Bii inherited distended wage bill and is among devolved units that have not been meeting their revenue targets.

The county with more than 4,000 employees has a wage bill over Sh3.5 billion and Mr Bii has his job cut out in streamlining the workforce and increase revenue streams.
