Kalonzo to Ruto: Deal with abductors of our youths

Mr Musyoka says Kenya Kwanza administration has failed to deal decisively with those behind abductions in the country.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has castigated President William Ruto for failing to curb various cases of abductions of youths in various parts of the country.

Speaking during a meet-the-people tour at Nyeri town’s main matatu terminus on Thursday, Kalonzo said the majority of young people have been abducted and tortured without being prosecuted in a court of Law.

Mr Musyoka termed the recent visit by President Ruto to Kenyan police officers in Haiti as ‘ironical’, saying his administration has failed to deal decisively with those behind abductions in his country.

“We saw the President praying for our police officers in Haiti. But this is ironic because his administration has not managed to stop abductions of our people here in Kenya. Our youths have been arrested and detained illegally without even being taken to court,” Mr Musyoka said.

“Our Constitution states that once a Kenyan is arrested, he or she should be taken to court within 48 hours. But that is not what is happening in our country today. Well, I will no longer sit back and watch as innocent Kenyans are being abducted and tortured,” he added.

The former Vice President called on President Ruto to focus on addressing the issues that were being raised by Gen Zs during their mass protests.

“Those who are embezzling public resources were given notice by the Gen Zs. They were protesting against tribalism, high taxation and lies issued by some of our leaders,” Kalonzo said.

He said the recent looming impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is being championed so as to divert Kenyans from the problems facing the country.

“Kenya is at a crossroads. Instead of chasing after the DP, they should be busy wiping out theft out of the country. This issue of Gachagua’s impeachment is just a diversionary tactic of the theft going on in government,” Kalonzo said.

He termed efforts to split leaders and the people of Mt Kenya region as ‘an exercise in futility’.

“This issue of splitting the mountain into two will not work. It is just impossible. The mountain will stay together. There is safety in numbers. This time round it won’t be business as usual,” Kalonzo said.

During the memorial service of 21 pupils who died at Hillside Endarasha Academy at Mweiga in Kieni constituency, Gachagua termed the people of Mt Kenya region as ‘peaceful’.

“To our former Vice President, the people of Mt Kenya are good people. They are very forgiving but do not forget. I appeal to everybody to treat the people of the mountain with kindness. As a people, we were there before, we are here today and we will be there tomorrow,” Mr Gachagua said.

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, a close ally to the DP, tactfully said that there would be a consequence of the actions that would be taken by MPs over the looming impeachment.

“For every action, there will be a reaction. I don't have any more to say. That's the point,” Mr Kahiga noted.
