It was not just football--it was theatre, suspense, and a nationwide panic attack as 10-man Harambee Stars clawed their way to a 1-1 draw with Angola--and rescued their Sh500,000-per-player bonus, promised by President William Ruto.
The real hero of the night? Not Bryne Omondi’s saves. Not Benni McCarthy’s touchline sprints. It was none other than VAR, perhaps Kenya’s unofficial 12th man.
In the 96th minute, Angola’s Kaporal (Domingos Da Silva Caporal) thought he had stolen the win with a clinical header.
The Angolan bench erupted, Kenyans held their breath — and memes were already being drafted.
But Nigerian referee Ali Sadou paused the party. After a tense VAR review, the goal was disallowed for offside. The relief that followed could have powered the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani stadium lights.

Earlier, Marvin Nabwire had been shown a red card in the 20th minute for a dangerous tackle, forcing Kenya to fight with 10 men.
Angola dominated early with efforts from Victor Pedro and Deivi Miguel, but Alphonse Omija and Bryne Omondi stood tall in defence.
The final whistle in the 99th minute triggered wild celebrations from the 46,520 attendees.
With thevdraw, Kenya remains unbeaten, staying top of Group A — and yes, the money is safe.
