Kenya’s Harambee Stars delivered a thrilling display to stay top of Group “A” in the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN PAMOJA 2024), earning both bragging rights and the promised Sh1 million bonus per player for the victory.

A stunning 42nd minute strike by Ryan Ogam proved to be the difference in a tense 1–0 win over Morocco.

The result kept Kenya unbeaten and, on course, for quarter-final qualification--even while reduced to 10 men after Chrispine Erambo’s second-half red card.

Immediately after the match, President William Ruto said Harambee Stars stood tall, defying the odds to defeat one of the tournament’s giants--Morocco--even after being reduced to 10 men for much of the match.

“Kenya is rising. We are conquering arenas where no one thought we could stand, let alone triumph. This is Kenya. We believe. We fight. We rise. Congratulations to our boys--mumecheza kama nyinyi. Sasa nitacheza kama mimi (you proved yourselves, now I shall fulfill the promise I made to reward you),” President Ruto said via a post on X platform.

Earlier, the Stars held Angola to a hardened 1–1 draw, despite a first-half red card after Marvin Nabwire’s sending off.

Austin Odhiambo replied for Kenya with a coolly-taken penalty in the 12th minute to salvage a vital point.

Before that, Kenya had opened the campaign with a solid 1–0 win over DR Congo, turning the tables on a two-time CHAN champion.

Meanwhile, Angola staged a dramatic comeback to beat Zambia 2–1, courtesy of a late double from substitute Kaporal—reviving their hopes in the group.

Now they edge closer to a historic maiden CHAN knockout appearance on home soil.
