Kisii ODM youths' leader injured by goons for asking Raila to support Matiang'i for president

Mr Denis Mosoti had taken Azimio leader Raila Odinga to task, urging him to shelve his ambition for former Interior CS Fred Matiang'i.

A Kisii Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youths’ leader is nursing injuries in a local health facility after goons clobbered him Sunday evening.

Mr Denis Mosoti was accosted and critically injured during a Shabana Football Club function at Gusii Stadium on Sunday where ODM leader Raila Odinga was in attendance.

Mr Mosoti has since claimed a political hand in the attempt on his life.

He doubles as Kisii Governor Simba Arati's Advisor on Youths Affairs and credited for pressing Azimio leader to retire his further political ambitions and instead back former Interior CS Fred Matiangi.

Mr Odinga and Kisii Governor Simba Arati had come to unveil a new kit for Shabana FC when protests rocked the venue.

From his hospital bed, Mr Mosoti told journalists that no suspect had by Tuesday been arrested despite him filing a complaint at Nyanchwa Police Station.

Doctors attending to him said he sustained chest, leg and back injuries from the blows and kicks rained on him.

The former premier on Sunday scoffed at the bid by Dr Matiangi to vie for the presidency.

On Tuesday a group of youths allied to him called for quick investigations into the attack to determine  the motive.

“It begs many questions that the ODM's County Youths Leader was attacked in the presence of the Party Leader Raila Odinga himself and his deputy who is Governor Simba Arati. It even raises more eye brows that he was attacked days after confronting Mr Odinga and told him to support Dr Matiang'i,” said Mr Rodgers Ongeri, their leader.

"Supporting Dr Matiang'i should not betray him into the hands of goons or leaders who are unhappy with his move," he stated.

The Constitution, he added, gives every Kenyan permission to freely express themselves.

Dr Denis Masenge, on his part, described the incident as unfortunate and urged for investigations.

“As Kisii youths, we are now in the business of identifying our political enemies. Anybody who is against the candidacy of Dr Matiang'i automatically joins the rank of those against us,” claimed Dr Masenge.

Mr Jeff Rambo, who is a member of the Youth Council, said it was shameful that Mr Mosoti could be harassed and beaten before senior party officials.

“It's utter shame that they have not said anything to date,” stated Mr Rambo.

They asked security agencies to investigate the matter and bring the suspects to book.
