Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has decried the state of neglect of the Health and Education sectors by the national government, saying that the two(2) key sectors are almost collapsing due to lack of proper funding.

Mr Mwangangi said learning has been disrupted in public universities due to the ongoing lecturers' strike while at the same time, hospitals are struggling to offer services due to unremitted Social Health Authority (SHA) funds.

Speaking during the opening of a new St Tobias Catholic Parish Mukengesya in Malaa, Matungulu sub-County which was presided by Machakos Bishop Norman King'oo on Saturday, Mr Mwangangi said despite the crisis in the two sectors, leaders go about politicking and chest thumbing as if all was well.

"Many hospitals are collapsing because of lack of SHA compensation. Right now those with students at public universities know that there's nothing happening there.
Let leaders stop chest thumbing. How do you claim you are working when education sector is almost collapsing?" Mr Mwangangi posed.

He said fixing the education sector was the only way to transform the country.

His views were echoed by Bishop King'oo, who said quality education will enable citizens to seek opportunities in the country and abroad.

He said the education sector was troubled, but encouraged students to work hard in school and hope for the best.

"There's a problem in the Education sector, but I urge students to work hard in their studies. What follows if you do your best God will determine," said Bishop King'oo.

He said an educated population can make changes for a better country.

Bishop King'oo wished success to candidates preparing for the end of year exams.
