At least 13 suspects, including Kware killings main murder suspect Collins Jumaisi, have escaped from Gigiri Police Station.

12 of the escapees are Eritreans. Two other Eritreans remained behind.

On Kware killings

Three suspects linked to the heinous killings of young women and dumping their bodies at dumpsite which is an eyesore left after quarrying activities, will know their fate August 26, 2024.

A Makadara law courts magistrate heard the suspects Mr Amos Momanyi, Mr Moses Ogembo, and Mr Jumaisi who is the main suspect, are likely to be charged with murder.

The heavily mutilated bodies of 17 women whose body parts were packaged in gunny bags were retrieved from the quarry early July 2024.

The three(3) suspects are likely to be charged with the murder of six(6) women who are the only ones so far identified, out of 17 bodies recovered from the quarry. The bodies were taken to Nairobi Funeral Home formerly City Mortuary after they were retrieved.

Inspector Patrick Wachira of the DCI's Homicides Unit said last week that they had already prepared six(6) police files.

The files were to be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga for perusal and advice ahead of preferring charges against the suspects.

The suspects if recommended to stand trial will be charged with murder contrary to section 203 as read with 204 of the Penal Code.

The women who were killed include Roseline Akoth whose phone was found on Mr Momanyi.

Mr Momanyi led police to Mr Ogembo who claimed to have acquired it from the main suspect.

Other victims are Josephine Mulongo, Christine Mwende, Wilkister Ososo, Brenda Shatuma, and Imelda Karenya. The latter was Mr Jumaisi's wife.

When Inspector Wachira testified before the court, he said investigations into the matter were still going on.

He thus sought the court's order to detain the three for an additional 21 days to conclude the investigations.

Mr Momanyi alleged that he bought Akoth's phone from Mr Ogembo, who was found with more than 160 mobile phones that are all under investigations.

Inspector Wachira said Ogembo's shop in Mukuru kwa Reuben slums, is an illegal business that was being used to dispose mobile phones belonging to victims murdered by the main suspect.

The magistrate--Ms Gichobi--fixed the case to be mentioned August 26, 2024.

Mr Jumaisi and co-suspects have been in custody until Tuesday (today) when the main suspect escaped.
