Major boost as Elgeyo Marakwet gets mobile screening truck from USAID-AMPATH

Elgeyo Marakwet has partnered with USAID-AMPATH for provision of a mobile screening truck for specialised diagnosis across the county.

The County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet has partnered with USAID-AMPATH for the provision of a mobile screening truck for specialised diagnosis in the region.

Elgeyo Marakwet County Governor Wisley Rotich received the fully equipped truck in Iten through Ampath Chief of Party Prof Sylvester Kimaiyo during the celebration of 235 HIV-free children born to mothers living with HIV.

According to Governor Rotich, during medical screening camps across the county held recently, his administration encountered thousands of patients who needed specialised diagnostics and screening.

"Going forward we shall be doing lab tests and X-rays during our medical camps, making us the first county to do this. Beyond Zero truck will continue doing cancer screening," said Mr Rotich accompanied by his spouse Fionnah Kiprotich, Deputy Governor Grace Cheserek, and the county health team.

"We shall continue fixing the gaps to make our health sector responsive to our people," said the county boss.

Mr Rotich added that his administration was committed to ensuing that residents afford affordable health care in the vast county.

The  county at the same time has embarked on the push for increased household earnings through growing high value crops across the devolved unit.

It is in the process of  distributing 4,660 coffee seedlings in all five sub-locations in Upper Emsoo and the sub-locations in Lower Emsoo.

"In the next three(3) or four(4) years, our people from Upper Emsoo will be earning from sale of coffee," said Mr Rotich.

At the same time, Elgeyo Marakwet County in collaboration with Pokot Heritage Foundation has anmounced education scholarship foundation for TVET training.

In the programme, each ward has been allocated 20 slots for September intake with the Pokot Heritage Foundation paying for tuition fees, while parents will cater for KUCCPS registration fee, examination fees, and upkeep.

Governor Rotich asked those wishing to benefit from the scholarship get in touch with their assistant chief, Chief or ward administrator.

"Please do so immediately wiithin any ward office, sub-County or County office as deadline is fast approaching," said the Governor.

"Take control of your life. No one will. Don't ever expect any better Chief Executive of your life other than yourself. Act now…postponing is to just shift suffering to a later date," added the Governor in his address to the youth.

The devolved unit has also smore than 200 students for further studies in Finland and Australian universities.
