A girl from Uasin Gishu County, who disappeared mysteriously on Saturday on her way to school, has been found alive in Webuye.

Beryl Chemtai,14, had left her Maili Nne home at the outskirts of Eldoret heading to AIC Kessup Girls in Elgeyo Marakwet County at 9.30am only to fail to arrive at school.

But her family’s agonizing three(3) days came to an end on Wednesday after the girl was traced to Webuye.

Her father Gilbert Chepkwony said though the girl looked a bit shaken when they met her, she is safe and sound.

"My daughter said someone duped her and robbed her of school and personal items before dumping her in Webuye. We have reported the incident to police who will investigate the circumstances surrounding her disappearance," Mr Chepkwony told AVDelta News on phone.

"What is important to us now is that we have found our daughter safe and alive. We will take her to a health facility for checkup and monitor her for some days before taking her to school," added Mr Chepkwony.

He thanked all Kenyans of goodwill who circulated the information on the girl's disappearance which assisted in tracing her.

The family got worried on Monday after reports from the school's administration indicated that she never reported to the institution.

Mr Chepkwony said his daughter who is a form two student has been going to school alone since she joined the school last year.

"Her class teacher usually calls me the moment the girl reaches the school but apparently he was not in school that Saturday," said Mr Chepkwony.

He said as parents they did not have any worry with that as the teacher had promised to inform them on Sunday.

They did not however talk on Sunday and it was only on Monday that they were informed that the girl was not in school.

According to Mr Chepkwony, they were planning to move their daughter to a new school this year but the process became a bit tedious.

"She understood this and even agreed to go back to her school. Beryl is a very disciplined and hardworking girl," said Mr Chepkwony.

Cases of missing children have been on the rise in the country sparking worry among parents.
