Nyeri leaders laud President Ruto for broad-based gov't

A section of leaders from Nyeri County have lauded President William Ruto for reconstituting his Cabinet and enjoining leaders from the Opposition.
Speaking to AVDelta News separately, the leaders said that the newly formed broad-based government will enhance inclusivity and push for more development in the country.
Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga said consecutive governments have over the years, since independence, failed to adequately deliver their manifesto due to lack of inclusivity in their formations.
Mr Wamatinga said some of the best agenda advocated by the Kenya Kwanza administration had been derailed due to lack of political goodwill.
“We know that the Constitution makes the winner of any election take-it-all. But the exclusivity of parts of this country has made us unable to push some of the government agenda. The introduction of new Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) from the Opposition not only gives us the numbers but also the political goodwill to transform this country,” Mr Wamatinga said.
The first term lawmaker said the move by President Ruto will ensure that development is rolled out smoothly.
“It is imperative to relook at the way we do our things. The broad-based government provides us the opportunity to move forward as we jointly roll out the bottom-up economic transformation agenda (Beta),” he said.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga appealed to leaders from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region to support President Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and stop politicking.
Mr Kahiga urged all leaders to focus on developing the country instead of unending infights.
“We were all elected to be servants to our people and that is our job description. When the broad-based government was formed, we saw other regions celebrating and appreciating their new entrants to the government. I therefore appeal to Mt Kenya leaders to join hands and cease unnecessary wrangles,” the governor said.
However, a section of youths from Nyeri, led by businessman Dominic Mwangi, urged President Ruto to consider incorporating youths in top leadership positions in his administration.
He said the Gen Zs were protesting to push for their inclusion in leadership yet they were left out during the reconstitution of the Cabinet.
“Well, we have seen the President introduce the broad-based government. But as youngsters, we want to see an all-inclusive government where we are also brought on board. His decision was prompted by efforts made by the youngsters to push for an all-inclusive government and tame corruption. We want to feel part of this government,” Mr Mwangi said.
Mukaro South Diocese AIPCA Bishop Simon Karatu said the new Cabinet should now focus on implementing development to Kenyans.
“Despite the fact that we have a broad-based government, we want to see development. We are so eager to see the measures that will be introduced to lower the high cost of living. Our leaders must now talk less and work more for the best interests of Kenyans,” Bishop Karatu said.
On his part, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) MCAs Caucus Chairman Kiruga Thuku said President Ruto has tasked all leaders to focus on development and stop unnecessary bickering.
Mr Thuku, who is also the Chinga MCA, said they will support the President and his deputy in delivering the Kenya Kwanza manifesto.
“We thank the President because he has shown us how to focus on developing our grassroots. We fully support the President and his deputy. We are doing this because we will realise development,” the MCA said.
