Parents have been advised to monitor their children not to be involved in drug abuse and other vices that may ruin their lives during this long holiday.

Machakos County Woman Representative Joyce Kamene said some children join bad company during the holidays and end up learning bad behavior which interferes with their academics.

Ms Kamene asked parents to be vigilant especially on the boys who make friends with people who are not students.

She said parents should know about their children's whereabouts and what they are up to.

"I ask parents to monitor their children. I want all students to go back in school come January 2025 when they are in good health," the MP said on Monday at King'oti ABC Church in Matungulu sub-County during the graduation ceremony of learners who had completed their Computer Packages training.

The training was for two(2) months and was sponsored by her office.

She warned the students against engaging in immoral behaviour which may lead to contracting of sexually transmitted diseases.

She also vowed to press for laws to curb gender violence in the country.

Her call comes as part of 16 days of activism to call for action for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls globally.

Ms Kamene has described the incidence of sexual and other forms of gender-based violence in Kenya as worrying.

She particularly made reference to rape of elderly woman in Matungulu sub-County whose case she was following up recently.
