Rains and thunderstorms expected in several regions over the coming days

• MET forecasts that various regions across Kenya will experience a mix of weather patterns, ranging from rains and thunderstorms to sunny intervals for a period of five days.

The Kenya Meteorological Department (MET) forecasts that various regions across the country will experience a mix of weather patterns, ranging from rains and thunderstorms to sunny intervals, from August 17, 2024, to August 21, 2024.

Residents in counties such as Kisumu, Nakuru, Kakamega, and Uasin Gishu can expect morning rains in a few places over the next five days.

Afternoons will see showers and thunderstorms, particularly on Saturday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. 

Nighttime will bring showers in a few places, with temperatures ranging from a maximum of 31°C on Sunday and Monday to a minimum of 9°C on Monday.

In Turkana and Samburu counties, rains are expected in several places on Saturday and Wednesday. Afternoon thunderstorms will be prevalent throughout the period, with peak temperatures of 36°C on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

Minimum temperatures will drop to as low as 11°C on Monday.

Residents in Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, and surrounding counties should prepare for cloudy mornings that will break into sunny intervals.

There is a chance of rain in a few places on Sunday and Wednesday. 

Afternoons will be marked by occasional showers, with temperatures ranging between 24°C and 26°C, and minimum temperatures dipping to 7°C on Monday and Tuesday.

The counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo will experience mostly sunny intervals during the day, with temperatures reaching a high of 37°C on Monday and Tuesday.

Nights will be partly cloudy, with a possibility of showers in Marsabit on Wednesday.

Counties like Kitui, Makueni, and Machakos can expect sunny intervals throughout the forecast period.

Cloudy conditions will be observed on Tuesday morning, breaking into sunny intervals. Nights will be partly cloudy, with temperatures ranging from 29°C to 31°C during the day and dropping to a minimum of 11°C on Monday and Tuesday.

The coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, and Lamu will have mostly sunny mornings, with a chance of showers in a few places from Sunday onwards.

Afternoons may also see a possibility of showers, with temperatures steady at around 30°C during the day and 20°C to 22°C at night.

MET advises citizens to stay updated with the daily 24-hour forecasts issued by the department for more detailed and localised information.
