A US-based Kenyan educational expert and motivational speaker Dr Vincent Kituku has appealed to the government to find a quick and lasting solution to the planned teachers' strike when schools reopen for the third term.

Dr Kituku said if the strike is not averted, it will cause anxiety and emotional stress to parents across the country.

He said society's future “depends on how our children are prepared for it”.

He said that learners are prepared by teachers, thus the government should prioritise teachers' compensation and come up with long-term solutions.

“Teachers do more than teaching a subject. They transform lives, play the role of parents, big brothers and big sisters and spiritual leaders on a daily basis,” Dr Kituku told AVDelta News on Monday.

He added, “At the moment, the employer should honour its pledge, as agreed in order to prevent the looming strike.”

He also urged teachers to soften their stance and dialogue with their employer--The Teachers Service Commission (TSC)--so that their grievances can be addressed instead of going on strike.
