UDA sends warning to Malala over use of party logos

Mr Malala has claimed that orchestrators of his ouster are the same people fighting DP Rigathi Gachagua.

President William Ruto's political party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), has issued a stern warning to its former Secretary General Cleophas Malala.

Through Adrian Kamotho Njenga and Company Advocates, UDA is demanding that Mr Malala ceases using the party's logo and symbols for personal gain.

In a letter dated August 16, 2024, Kamotho Njenga and Company Advocates stated that Mr Malala's continued use of the logos even when he has been ousted as SG is against the law, as those emblems are protected by the Constitution of Kenya.

"You have extended your drama spree to using the official party emblems and insignia in your theatrical adventures. We take liberty to remind you that all party accouterments and trappings are part of UDA's intellectual property portfolio, well registered and secured by, among others, Article 11 of the Constitution, the Industrial Property Act (Cap 509), and the Trade Marks Act (Cap 506)," the letter stated.

If the former Kakamega Senator fails to comply with the demands, he has been warned “it will result in legal action”.

The party is determined to protect its image and intellectual property from any unauthorized use, particularly in works the top leadership believe misrepresent their operations and values.

The former SG is indeed a playwright who composed the controversial ‘Shackles of Doom’ play staged by Butere Girls High School during the National Drama Festivals some years back.
