Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has launched the issuance of 50,000 title deeds to residents in a move that will empower residents with security of tenure for their parcels of land.

On Thursday, Governor Ndeti issued 1,000 title deeds to residents of Kibauni Ward in Mwala sub-County,

She lauded efforts by Machakos Land Registrar Dorothy Letting and Machakos County Executive Committee Member for Lands Nathaniel Nganga.

“Our people have suffered a lot for lack of title deeds. These title deeds will empower you but do not sell all your land anyhow,” Governor Ndeti advised.

She said the County Government had done spatial planning to guide development in the devolved unit for the next 10 years.

Elated beneficiaries thanked the governor for the help.

"Today I have received title deed for my father's land and I am happy because we have been waiting for a long time," said Ms Domitila Masila from Ikalaasa village.

Ms Bibiananne Mutindi from Tulila said she was unable to travel to Machakos Town for processing of the title deed.

She said the title deeds will bring peace to many homes which used to have land-related conflicts.

The National Government in collaboration with county governments has promised to issue 3 million title deeds free of charge to citizens, Machakos Lands Registrar Ms Letting said.

"When we were doing the valuation roll for Machakos, we realised that we had over 40,000 title deeds pending collection.
The government is giving 3 million title deeds for free," said Ms Letting.

Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi asked residents to support the governor in order to deliver on her development agenda.

Governor Ndeti will be launching projects across the county for the next 16 days in her development tour.
