Heavily armed bandits on Thursday evening besieged a police camp in Laikipia County, opened fire and in the process injured two(2) officers.

According to a police report submitted to the Inspector General of Police office by Laikipia County Security committee, the bandits numbering about 10 forced the officers attached to Katunga camp into a fierce gunfight in the 7pm incident and reinforcements had to be called in to rescue the security campers.

The besieged officers who had taken cover to avoid being overrun, called in help from nearest Doldol Police Station and the reinforcement helped repulse the bandit attackers.

"Combined efforts from teaming officers managed to repulse the gang. Some sustained gunshot wounds. There were two(2) officers who sustained injuries in the attack," the report reads in part.

The report indicates that the attack has necessitated high level vigilance in the bandit prone zones of the county where mostly attacks are cattle rustling-related.

The injuries sustained by the male officers are captured to be minor.

The injured officers, according to the brief, were referred to Nanyuki County Referral Hospital.

The brief does not attribute the attack to any known motive, saying it is under more investigations.
