Eldoret City is gearing up to host the continent for the African Road Cycling Championship - the first time for the pedalling extravaganza to be held in Kenya.

It will also be a chance for Uasin Gishu County--a self-proved sporting hub--to prove to the world that it is indeed Kenya's sports nerve. The event is scheduled for October 9 to October 13, 2024.

Speaking when she hosted a delegation from Golazo Sports, Uasin Gishu County Executive for Sports Lucy Ng'endo said the County Government welcomes the idea that further uplifts Uasin Gishu County as a sports giant.

"As the city of champions, we have all it takes because this event will also motivate our young people to join cycling as a sport," said Ms Ng'endo, adding that the County is ready to get right into planning.

Cyclists representing African countries will battle it out for the men's and women's titles.

Each country will be represented by eight (8) athletes from each category.

In 2023, Golazo Sports in partnership with the Confederation of African Cycling (CAC), held a cycling championship in Ghana where at least 22 countries participated.

The team later visited the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Dr Edison Nyale's office for a brief and further planning to ensure the event is coordinated smoothly.

Directors Nicholas Busienei (Sports), Sila Terikin (Governor's Press), and Amos Kipruto (Communications) were present during the meeting.
