The youths in Ukambani region have been asked to vie for elective seats in the 2027 General Election instead of complaining about bad leadership.
A city comedian and radio presenter Vincent Mutua, popularly known as Chipukeezy, said young people should step out to determine how the region is being governed.
He said the era of youths taking a low profile in politics was long gone and instead asked them to remain vigilant and step out to seek elective posts in the next General Election.
Chipukeezy told the youths to use their numbers during election period to elect more of their own in political seats.
"Youth should not rely on nomination slots… they should fight for elective posts to bring change. The youth are the future of Kenya," the comedian said on Sunday at St Mary's Primary School grounds during the final match of youth tournament organised by his Chipukeezy Empowerment Foundation.
He said the aim of tournament was to train the youths on leadership and their rights, how to set goals and importance of education.
The 13 to 18-year-olds who planted seedlings at the school compound after the tournament, were also trained on confidence building and guided on how to avoid substance abuse and crime.
Chipukeezy also urged residents in the region to invest in the region as that will promote region's economic development and create jobs for the area youths.
Speaking during the occasion, Mr Simon Kathumo--a politician in the sub-County--said playing football was one way of earning income, keeping fit as well as helping the youths to avoid negative practices such as drug abuse and crime.
Mr Kathumo called on parents across the country to be good role models to their children by guiding them and advising them to avoid getting into abusive situations.
“I also ask the youths to nurture their talents,” Mr Kathumo said as he thanked the comedian for organising the tournament.
He also urged the youths in the region to be involved actively in electing their leaders so as to shape the destiny of their region.
He also called on leaders to make sports a priority in order to engage the youths and make them shun risky behaviour such as drug abuse and premarital sex.
