The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is appealing for the public's help in locating Kware murder suspect Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, who escaped from police custody on August 20, 2024.

Mr Jumaisi was due to be charged with murder before he escaped from Gigiri police station along with 12 other Eritrean nationals who were being held on immigration charges.

The DCI is now offering a substantial cash reward to anyone with credible information that could lead to the suspect's arrest.

"A substantial cash reward is being offered to anyone with credible information leading to the arrest of the suspect. The suspect hails from Shiru Sub-location, Shaviringa Location, Hamisi Sub-County in Vihiga County," the DCI said.

The DCI has also set up hotlines for anonymous information on the escapee's whereabouts: 0800722203 or the police hotlines 999, 911 and 112, or report to any police station in the country.

Acting Inspector General of Police, Gilbert Masengeli, described the escape as an "inside job" and vowed that the police officers involved would be brought to justice.

The DCI is currently holding five police officers from Gigiri Police Station involved in the incident while investigations continue.

The officers are CPL Ronald Babo, PC Evans Kipkirui, PC Mollent Achieng, PC Zachary Nyabuto and PC Gerald Mutuku.

In July 2024, Mr Jumaisi confessed to killing 42 women and dumping their bodies at the Kware dumpsite.

His lawyer would later say that he was under duress to confess.

According to a police report, Mr Jumaisi and the other prisoners escaped by cutting through the wire mesh at the station's basking bay.

“An officer and the canteen manager discovered the escape when they went to serve breakfast and found the cell door open,” the report read in part.

He is wanted for the murders of more than 40 women, committed between 2022 and 2024.

However, the charges were reduced to six.
