The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (Fida-Kenya) has condemned the macabre killing of six(6) women, including two(2) minors, in a spate of femicide incidents reported in the recent weeks.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Fida-Kenya expressed deep sadness and outrage over the deaths, as a shock to the nation.
The most recent victims include Amina Abdi Rashid Dahir, her daughter, and her niece, whose bodies were discovered in various parts of Nairobi and Machakos after they went missing.
Two(2) other women, including a Zetech University graduate and a woman from Ngong, were found dead under similar circumstances.
Fida-Kenya decried the disturbing trend of unresolved femicide cases, calling on law enforcement to take action.
“These crimes must not go unresolved. We strongly condemn these heinous acts of femicide and call upon law enforcement to prioritise these cases,” said Ms Christine Kungu, Fida-Kenya Chairperson.
The organisation also urged the government to allocate resources to investigate and prosecute the perpetrators, emphasizing that women's safety is under severe threat.
“Enough is enough! Femicide must be declared a national disaster in Kenya,” added Ms Kungu pledging Fida-Kenya's continued commitment to advocating for women's rights.
