Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has joined world leaders in congratulating Republican Donald Trump on his election as the 47th US President.

In the US Election held on Tuesday, Trump trounced Vice President Kamala Harris of Democrats.

There were seven(7) swing states, and Wisconsin proved important to Trump as the win catapulted him beyond the 270 mark Electoral College vote threshold.

“Congratulations President Donald Trump, for one of the greatest political come-backs of our generation. Your victory is clear proof that resilience and a never-say-die attitude will always TRUMP obstacles on the path to your destiny. God Bless You. God Bless America,” Mr Gachagua posted on X on Wednesday.

The Associated Press news agency and CNN, the US leading media outlets have called the race.

Victory in Wisconsin after earlier triumphs in Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania saw Trump surpass the threshold of the 270 Electoral College votes required to clinch the White House.

His victory in those swing states currently sees him with 277 electoral votes against 224 for Harris making the win easier for former president than the opinion polls had predicted that it was a much tighter race.

British Prime Minister Keir Stammer was among the first leaders to congratulate Trump.

PM Stammer said he hopes the "special relationship will continue to prosper", and that the UK will stand "shoulder to shoulder" with the US to defend their "shared values".

Other leaders who congratulated Trump are Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and French President Emmanuel Macro.

Harris had to dismiss her supporters from Howard University grounds who had gathered for ‘Wednesday night watch party’.

She had pitched camp at the University for a poll watch, but checked out herself.

By dawn Wednesday, reporters said the vast grounds at the University remained deserted when as vote count went on, her winning chances became slimmer.

The lectern she was to use to deliver a 'historic victory speech' was abandoned and was seen covered with rain covers.

Sensing defeat, the VP checked out as the tally put Trump ahead of her.

A campaign manager, however, told reporters she would turn up early to "address the nation".

With victory having slipped away, it is expected she will deliver a concession speech.
