Nairobi will witness the third edition of the Jubilee Live Free Race, powered by the Grand Nairobi Bike Race, set to take place on Sunday.

This annual cycling event is expected to attract both local and international participants and is designed to promote the culture of cycling across Kenya, highlighting its benefits for physical and mental health as well as its role in environmental sustainability.

The race, organised in partnership with the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA), and the Kenya Cycling Federation, will lead to road closures on several major routes within the city.

From 6am to 2pm, roads including Harambee Avenue, Uhuru Highway, Lang’ata Road (via the new overpass to Uhuru Gardens), Aerodrome Road, Bunyala Road, Lower Hill, Upper Hill Road, Haile Selassie Avenue, and the Nyayo House Roundabout will be affected.

Nairobi residents are urged to plan accordingly to avoid disruptions.

Event organisers emphasize that the race aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by encouraging cycling as an eco-friendly alternative to reduce the city's carbon footprint and improve urban spaces.

"This race not only promotes cycling for all ages but also creates awareness on the importance of safe spaces for cyclists in the city, making it healthier and more sustainable," the statement read.

Local law enforcement officers will be stationed along the race route to direct traffic and ensure the safety of both participants and road users.

Nairobi residents are thanked in advance for their understanding and cooperation, with organisers working to minimise inconvenience and ensure a smooth event.
