Nyeri Water and Sanitation Company (Nyewasco) has held celebrations for emerging victorious in the recently concluded Water Sports Companies Organisation (Wasco) games.

Nyewasco grabbed the second position during the 13th Edition of Wasco Games that were held in Murang’a County in August.

During the games that attracted over 52 water companies in the country, Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (N.C.W.S.C) became the overall winner while Nyewasco emerged as 1st runners up.

Thika Water and Sewerage Company were 2nd runners up.

The Games’ theme was: “Combating climate change through sports”.

Nyewasco has maintained the second position for three years in a row.

Members of staff of the company spent the better part of Friday cleaning up the streets of Nyeri town to mark the celebrations.

Nyewasco Managing Director Eng Peter Kahuthu told journalists that the company and employees have embraced sports and it is a big motivation to their staff to provide the best services to their consumers.

“Apart from being the best water service provider in Kenya, we have also ensured that we excel in sports activities. For the last three years consecutively, we have grabbed position two in sports activities,” Eng Kahuthu said.

“We have embraced that culture of ensuring there is measured work and providing our staff the opportunity to showcase their talents in sporting activities. We are an all-round workforce,” he added.

The company’s board chairperson Mr Gathogo Mwangi, exuded confidence that they will continue shining in the sporting activities.

“We conducted a clean-up exercise in Nyeri town because the company is committed to ensuring that our environment is clean. We are celebrating after emerging number two in the recently concluded Wasco games. We are glad to have retained our position,” Mr Mwangi said.

Nyewasco is the oldest water service provider in Kenya.

It started its operations before the enactment of water sector reforms of 2002.
