Pope Francis appoints two Kenyan clergymen to key positions

In a significant development for the Catholic Church faithfuls in Kenya, Pope Francis has appointed two distinguished clergymen to key positions. 

Rev Wallace Ng’ang’a Gichihi will now serve as the Bishop of the Military Ordinariate, while Fr Peter Kimani Ndu’ngu assumes the role of Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Embu. 

These appointments mark a pivotal moment in the Church's leadership.

Rev Gichihi, previously the Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi, brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his new role. 

His Apostolic Ordination and Installation took place on April 6, 2024, and since then, he has been actively involved in pastoral work, community outreach, and spiritual guidance. 

He holds the distinction of being the inaugural Pastoral Coordinator in the Archdiocese of Nairobi, appointed on November 11, 2011, by the then Archbishop Emeritus of Nairobi, John Cardinal Njue.

As the Bishop of the Military Ordinariate, Rev Gichihi will oversee the spiritual needs of the armed forces, providing pastoral care to military personnel and their families. 

His appointment reflects the Church's commitment to supporting those who serve their country with honour and sacrifice.

Fr Ndung'u steps into the leadership role of the Catholic Diocese of Embu with enthusiasm and a deep sense of responsibility. 

His appointment as Bishop comes after a rigorous selection process, during which his dedication to pastoral ministry and his understanding of the local community stood out. 

The Diocese of Embu, known for its vibrant faith community and rich cultural heritage, will benefit from Fr Ndung'u's pastoral leadership. His vision includes fostering unity, promoting social justice, and nurturing spiritual growth among the faithful.
