DP Gachagua claims critics are sponsored to divide the Mountain

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his allies are now alarmed at what they claim to be an elaborate plan schemed to divide the Mountain region ahead of 2027 General Election, five(5) senior politicians from the region allegedly being at the centre of the plot.

The DP who of late has projected an image of an embattled politician fighting hook and crook to win the grip of the vote rich Mountain speaking on Sunday in Nairobi said “our very own sons and daughters are being used by those who wish to see our annihilation, to execute an elaborate plan that is well funded to ensure our might is crashed into pieces for the grabs”.

Pundits are now worried that the route Mt Kenya divisions are taking will present a huge challenge for President William Ruto government’s stability and roadmap to second term in 2027 given that erosion of about 200,000 votes from his current mandate and authority will send him to a political whirlwind of crafting new contest partnership.

Mr Gachagua said the plot entails “the five(5) traitors giving out monthly retainers to selected regional agents tasked to create factions among us, recruit foot soldiers in all assemblies and wage public and social media onslaughts against those of us preaching about Mt Kenya unity and one-man-one-vote-one-shilling formula of opportunity and resource allocation”.

He said he is privy to intelligence that the plot to counter his bid to unite the region will be rolled out soon—like in about two(2) weeks’ time—in the constituencies “where you will see them coming carrying money in sacks—even when we have been told to announce that the economy does not have money—so that they can bribe some of you with food and cash so that you can agree with them and their masters that our collective unity is not a good thing and that we should not get what is rightfully ours”.

While Mr Gachagua fell short of naming the suspects, he has relentlessly announced that “those troubling us are a few elements close to the president who are drunk with power and have been overfed to a point that they are vomiting on us”.

Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni told us on Tuesday that “for the umpteenth time I am happy to hear Mr Gachagua play remorseful on the tragedy he handed his community by taking it to a political marriage that has no negotiations, dowry and certificate”.

“While we are ready to partner with him to correct that grand fallacy, we should hear him and his allies publicly denouncing the Ruto administration,” Mr Kioni said.

He wants the Gachagua brigade to speak up against the murders, abductions and forced disappearances as well as brute force that was meted out against innocent Generation Z who led public protests against oppressive tax regime as well as urge the president to vacate his “Mr know it all attitude where he utters all governance issues from the point of I-have-a-plan-for this country”.

Mr Kioni said “governance is about exercising the sovereign power of the people hence why they should be consulted to give rise to a working formula of we have a plan for our country”.

He said “to defeat that awareness, it is true plans to divide the mountain are there and being progressed even through dictatorial way of killing the Jubilee party so that the region can continue being demeaned and isolated”.

Mr Gachagua said “I will soon be naming all our division agents one by one and we are going to brand them like how we used to do on cattle so that everywhere they pass they conspicuously announce themselves”.

The claims have raised the restlessness that abides in the region, the council of elders warning that continued escalation of divisive utterances by some area senior political actors is making a situation that is bad get worse.

“We are not amused when we continue to hear our leaders make claims and counterclaims against each other. We are making ourselves look like disgruntled fools and who cannot even organise ourselves to take advantage of our numbers and stage a structured fight or fight back for what is rightfully ours. This is not how a big house that is us should behave,” said Kikuyu Council of Elders Mr Wachira Kiago on Monday.

Mr Kiago said “we are all in agreement that our unity is paramount and seeking friendship with other communities is even greater wisdom”.

“But we cannot set off towards seeking political and development partners while speaking at variance,” Mr Kiago said.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah has since dismissed Mr Gachagua as a crybaby afraid to use his position to win what he is advocating in public through policy and influence peddling, a thought also shared by president Ruto's Economic Advisor Moses Kuria.

“He wants to recruit all of us in the Mountain to a defeatist cause of feeling demeaned, holding ourselves in spite and behaving like beggars of charity when we have 87 percent presence in government exercising 47 percent of state power. I cannot be party to that kind of mentality and I will be out there advocating for a hardworking, resilient and persistent mindset about life devoid of crying wolf where there is none,” Mr Kuria said.

The two(2) President's loyalists said plot to isolate Mt Kenya is only a figment of imagination by paranoid politicians who want to establish a narrative of self-hate among Mt Kenya Nation.

"They want us to eject ourselves from government to go and gamble in the cold… and mark you we are not all that stupid to behave like a woman who runs away from her home during time of bounty harvest," Mr Kuria said.

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga said “the plot to divide us is very clear and the pattern of Mr Gachagua being set up by some very senior government officials to end up in the political dustbin is very eminent”.

“His boss started by inciting him to give former President Uhuru Kenyatta a tongue lashing during the 2022 swearing-in ceremony, prodded him to declare that the government was that of shareholding and also announce that he had set traps in State House to block opposition boss from accessing proximity of power,” Mr Kahiga alleged.

A bitter Kahiga said that “Gachagua absorbed the backlash of lecturing the departing Mr Kenyatta, President Ruto himself went to Nyanza and dismissed Gachagua as primitive for advocating for shareholding government and ended up embracing Mr Odinga in the bedroom of State House while allocating the DP Sh400 million only to wage coffee reforms for the benefit of Mt Kenya region farmers”.

Mr Kahiga told us that “it is not a crime to deduce your findings from the available evidence”.

“All they want is to break us into camps, pit us against ourselves and also ensure we are without a shepherd so that the sheep can scatter for easy capture,” the Nyeri Governor said.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki and Chief Economic Advisor to the president Mr David Ndii are among senior government officials who have publicly told Mr Gachagua off on his one-man-one-vote-one-shilling mantra.

While Mr Ichung’wa has since said “Mr Gachagua is advancing a tribal fixation with the village so as to blackmail the president and the nation for selfish gain”, Mr Kindiki has on his part said “the best narrative that we should be advancing is that of one-Kenya-one-flag but not those misguided formulas that have no authentic ends for the means”.

On his part, Mr Ndii has dismissed Mr Gachagua’s on- man-one-shilling mantra as an obsession with Agikuyu community’s “supremacist, hegemonic, tyranny, domination and superiority complex”.

Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri said “we should not be treated to public and gallery lectures about how we are receiving a raw deal from people who have the privilege to make things happen officially by way of influencing policy since none of those things he is advocating for will be endorsed, passed and implemented in the market centres”.

As the exchange of words continue, Mt Kenya East counties have seceded and appointed Mr Kindiki as their kingpin hence bringing out the picture that Mr Gachagua is painting--that of sponsored divisions.

Mt Kenya East has Meru, Tharaka Nithi and Embu counties that have broken ranks with Murang'a, Nyeri, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Kirinyaga, Nairobi and Nakuru counties that together are identified as Mt Kenya in the political space.
