Tanzanians are participating in local government elections with the exercise running on smoothly in both island and at the mainland.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Wednesday urged the citizens to come forward and participate in the exercise.

She also urged them to maintain peace.

The election is being held in Tanzania at a time where opposition parties are claiming that political rights have been stifled.

On his social media account, former Member of Parliament for Mikumi constituency in Morogoro region, Joseph Haule popularly known as Professor Jay, has written that, “The names of the voters are not clear, the register of voters is also not the usual one...”

After these elections, Tanzanians will have a chance to vote for the council, parliamentary representatives and president later in 2025.
