Four(4) Nyamira residents on Friday filed a petition with the state electoral agency (IEBC) seeking the suspension of Nyamira County.

The petitioners, Jeremiah Nyaribari, Astariko Moriasi, Ombati Kerubo, and Jared Nyaribo, claim “instances of impropriety” in the devolved unit as the basis for their move.

They listed compromised service delivery, incompetence and poor management of the devolved unit.

They also claimed that Nyamira County Govenment under the leadership of Governor Amos Nyaribo, has continuously failed to pay casual staff their wages.

They also complained that nepotism had taken centre stage.

They agitated of lack of equipment, drugs and other basic amenities in health facilities.

They also cited failure to hire early childhood and development teachers on permanent and pensionable terms and failure to build ECDE classrooms among many other issues.

They further cited piling graft, claiming that the there was allocation of funds to unending ghost projects among them Manga Stadium.

A questionable allocation of Sh7 million to a non-existential disability board was cited in the petition filed through Denis Onyango and Associates Advocates.

The petitioners claimed that “Governor Nyaribo's glaring incompetence is reflected in the recent request to the president to fund a hospital kitchen, perimeter fence and a mortuary at Keroka Sub-County Hospital”.

“The governor knows that his policies and incompetence constitute a death sentence for the people of Nyamira,” the petitioners stated in their rumbling 4-page petition.

Already they have initiated the process to collect signatures as required by section 123 (2) of the County Government Act as a prerequisite to petition to the president to suspend the devolved unit.

Only by suspending the County can the residents claim the devolved unit from further sinking, the petitioners claimed.
