AMREF Flying Doctors on Friday led a large-scale corporate social responsibility (CSR) drive in Mwihoko, a community in Kiambu County, bringing together national and county leaders, community members, and over 25 partner organisations to deliver health, education, and environmental support.

The one-day programme at Mutuya Comprehensive School benefited more than 2,000 residents, offering free health screenings, psycho-social support, and distribution of food, clothing, and stationery. A tree-planting exercise saw 150 trees planted within the school compound.

The initiative was organised in recognition of the resilience and solidarity shown by the Mwihoko community following the tragic AMREF Flying Doctors aircraft accident of August 7, 2025.

Speaking during the event, AMREF Flying Doctors Chairperson, Major (Rtd) Kefa Kihara, said the CSR drive was based on consultations with local leaders and focused on long-term community needs.

“This engagement is not simply a CSR activity. It is a continuation of a shared journey with the Mwihoko community. We are translating compassion and solidarity into meaningful and lasting action centred on health, education, dignity, and opportunity,” he said.

Kihara paid tribute to those who died in the 2025 accident, including Mutuya pupil Yvonne Nasimiyu, community member James Gitau, and AMREF Flying Doctors crew members Captain Muthuka Munuve, Captain Brian Kimani, Dr Charles Njoroge, and Nurse Jane Omusula, saying their legacy continues to guide the organisation’s mission.

As part of the drive, AMREF Flying Doctors committed to constructing a new classroom block at Mutuya Comprehensive School. The facility will ease congestion, expand learning space, and improve safety for pupils.

Group Chief Finance Officer, Jennifer Peng, speaking on behalf of Amref Health Africa leadership, emphasized the organisation’s long-term commitment to supporting communities beyond moments of tragedy.

“Our commitment is to walk with communities toward long-term resilience and opportunity. What we are building here, in health, education, and environment, reflects our belief that lasting change happens when institutions and communities work side by side,” she said.

The Mwihoko CSR drive was made possible through collaboration with 27 partner organisations from aviation, healthcare, finance, logistics, and community development sectors, including Ecobank Kenya, Aga Khan Hospital, Safarilink Aviation, Nairobi Hospital, and Amref International University.

AMREF Flying Doctors, based in Kenya, is a globally recognised air ambulance provider with 68 years of aeromedical experience across Africa.

The organisation carries out about 1,000 aeromedical missions annually and provides free charity flights for patients in underserved regions, supporting Amref Health Africa’s broader vision of lasting health change across the continent.

The event was also graced by Ruiru MP Simon Ng’ang’a who lauded AMREF Flying Doctors for their hands-on support, saying the Mwihoko CSR drive is a lifeline for the community.
