Mudavadi to Natembeya: ‘Prepare to go home in 2027’
Prime Cabinet Secretary (PCS) and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has told Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya to expect a strong challenge in the 2027 elections.
PCS Mudavadi on a campaign trail in Malava Constituency in Kakamega County, declared that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will in 2027 field a strong candidate capable of defeating Governor Natembeya.
Mr Mudavadi, who folded his Amani National Congress (ANC) to join President William Ruto's UDA party, cautioned the outspoken governor against overconfidence.
He said UDA has a pool of energetic young leaders ready to contest the seat.
“Governor Natembeya is political greenhorn. Some of us have been in politics much longer. We may keep quiet, but never mistake silence for inability. In 2027 we shall send you home," Mr Mudavadi said.
He added that the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition has vibrant young men and women prepared to take the Trans Nzoia governor’s seat.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary emphasized that his preference for calm and courteous politics should not be interpreted as a sign of weakness.
“I have experienced both victory and defeat. We understand political strategy, yet we choose to conduct ourselves with decorum and peace,” he added.
Mudavadi also took a swipe with Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, whom he described as someone who evades valid questions as far as upholding human rights is concerned.
“On what moral ground does Matiang’i stand to criticise this government when he has so many unanswered questions? Kenyans still remember the hundreds of bodies discovered in River Yala while he was in charge,” Mudavadi stated.
Matiang'i, who is the Deputy Party Leader of former President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party, has on numerous occasions stated that he is already to appear before a Commission of inquiry to shed light on what he knows about the mysterious deaths.
Mudavadi urged residents of Western region to give President Ruto unwavering support in 2027 in order to position the region strongly for a future presidential bid.
“We need to support President Ruto so that when he completes his second term, the baton can come to us," he said, insisting leaders from other parts of the country are already strategising.
