Bishop Dominic Kimengich, currently serving as Bishop of Eldoret, has expressed gratitude after being appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Mombasa by Pope Leo XIV on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
Speaking on the appointment, Bishop Kimengich said, "I am humbled and grateful for this call to serve. I ask for prayers as I step into this new responsibility and pledge to support Archbishop [Martin] Kivuva in guiding the faithful."

Bishop Kimengich, born April 23, 1961, in Kitur, Baringo County, was ordained in 1986 for the Diocese of Nakuru.
He has served as parish priest, seminary rector, Vicar General of Nakuru, Bishop of Lodwar, and then Bishop of Eldoret since 2019.
He also holds advanced degrees in canon law from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, Rome.
In Eldoret, Bishop Kimengich earned a strong reputation for his pastoral engagement, community leadership, and focus on social issues.
He was known for hands-on pastoral care, speaking out on security and peace matters in volatile areas like Kerio Valley, and supporting education and vulnerable groups.
His leadership strengthened the diocese’s structures and earned him respect among clergy and laity alike.
The Archdiocese of Mombasa covers Mombasa, Kwale, Taita Taveta, and parts of Kilifi.
Bishop Kimengich’s appointment ensures continuity and stability as Archbishop Kivuva nears retirement, and positions him to guide the faithful across the coastal region.
