Pregnant teen brutally attacked with machete by boyfriend in Machakos

The attack, which took place in the village of Yoani, saw the suspect allegedly lock her inside their home before fleeing the scene.

Police in Mwala sub-County have launched investigations after a man left a pregnant teen with serious injuries in a horrific incident that has left the local community in shock.

The man is accused of attacking and injuring an 18-year-old woman they were cohabitating with, using a panga, leaving her for dead.

The attack, which took place in the village of Yoani, saw the suspect allegedly lock her inside their home before fleeing the scene.

Her frantic screams drew neighbours to the house, where they found her with life-threatening injuries to her neck, arms, and head.

Angeline Kilonzo, the chairperson of Mwala Community Policing, confirmed the incident and said the woman was rushed to Masii Level 4 Hospital for first aid before being transferred to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for further treatment.

She condemned the violence and urged community members to find constructive ways to resolve disputes without violence.

"Her arms were almost falling off, she was covered in a pool of blood when neighbours found her. She was rushed to hospital and we hope the baby is okay too," said Ms Kilonzo.

According to the teen identified only as Ndanu, the two(2) have been living together for the past two(2) years and the brutal attack was allegedly carried out by her 22-year-old boyfriend Brian Waita.

Ndanu, who is 23 weeks pregnant, had just had lunch together before Waita left, claiming he would get a donkey to use at the market.

Upon returning with the donkey, he washed his shirt while Ndanu rested.

Moments later, she found herself on the floor, bloodied from a vicious slash to the neck and arm.

In shock, she crawled to the bed and called a neighbour for assistance after her boyfriend fled, trapping her inside the house.

In a desperate attempt to save her, a local man climbed through the roof and unlocked the door.

"I still can’t believe that my husband, who has always been loving and caring, did this to me," Ndanu said tearfully, adding that the couple had no children, but that she is expecting their first.

Juliana Mwendwa, Nursing Service Manager at Machakos Level 5, confirmed that Ndanu had suffered serious injuries, including a deep cut to her neck and arm.

"She arrived unconscious but is now stable and recovering in the orthopaedic ward," Ms Mwendwa said.

She further expressed concern over the rising cases of gender-based violence in the county, urging the community to take a stand against the vice.

Mwala OCPD Muthoni Wahome confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and authorities are actively pursuing the suspect, who remains at large since the incident
