Starlink introduces affordable Mini Kit in Kenya

With the launch of Starlink Mini, more Kenyans now have access to Starlink's high-speed satellite internet at a lower price point.

Starlink, the satellite internet provider owned by tech billionaire Elon Musk, has officially launched its compact and affordable Starlink Mini Kit in Kenya.

The new offering aims to provide high-speed internet access to users seeking a more portable and budget-friendly alternative to the company’s Standard kit.

The Starlink Mini is designed to meet the needs of individuals and businesses that require basic internet applications in smaller spaces or while on the move.

Covering an area of 112 m² (1,200 ft²), the Mini kit is smaller and more compact compared to the Starlink Standard, which offers broader coverage of up to 297 m² (3,200 ft²) and is better suited for high-demand activities like streaming, gaming, and video conferencing.

Starlink Mini’s portability makes it a convenient option for those who need internet access in various locations.

Whether used at home or in a remote work setting, it provides quick and reliable internet connectivity. Its low power consumption and compact design ensure users can get online in just minutes, and the kit includes a built-in kickstand for easy setup or permanent installation.

Additionally, the Mini kit comes with a pipe adapter mount, allowing it to be attached to existing poles for more stable use.

While the Starlink Mini offers basic internet functionality, the Starlink Standard Kit is designed for more demanding use.

Covering a larger area and capable of withstanding extreme weather conditions, the Standard kit is ideal for users who require faster speeds and heavier internet usage, such as online gaming or video calls.

One notable difference is the included hardware. The Starlink Standard comes with a Gen 3 WiFi Router, while the Starlink Mini features integrated WiFi.

Both kits, however, allow users to manually adjust their devices using the alignment tool available in the Starlink app, making it easy to set up without professional assistance.

With the launch of Starlink Mini, more Kenyans now have access to Starlink's high-speed satellite internet at a lower price point.

This move is expected to make satellite internet more accessible to remote and underserved areas across the country, where traditional broadband options are limited.

The introduction of the Starlink Mini in Kenya aligns with the company’s broader mission to provide affordable, high-speed internet globally, especially in regions where traditional infrastructure may not reach.

Starlink's latest offering comes at a time when local internet providers are also stepping up their services.

Safaricom, Kenya's leading broadband provider, recently introduced upgraded internet speeds in response to growing competition.

However, with the affordability and portability of Starlink Mini, Kenya's satellite internet market is expected to become even more competitive.
