Police in Keroka, Nyamira County, were by Tuesday evening probing a suspected suicide incident at  Riyabe Mixed Secondary where the body of female student was found hanging in a dormitory.

The school is located in Rigoma area in Masaba North Sub-County.

The  body, sources at the school said, was found dangling with a shuka tied to the neck.

A teacher at the school said the deceased was a candidate.

There was, however, no official information from the school authorities by press time as the school principal remained tight-lipped.

Journalists who turned up at the school to cover the bizarre incident decried being harassed.

A photographer reported a damaged camera as security personnel shoved them out of the school compound

"What we know for now is that one(1) of our students may have taken her life in circumstances that are being investigated," said a teacher not authorised to speak to the media.

The body was taken to a morgue in Keroka as homicide detectives launch a probe.
