An aircraft carrying 39 passengers veered off the runway at Wilson Airport on Friday night, in an incident that briefly caused concern but ended without injuries.

The plane, arriving from Kisumu International Airport, went off the runway at around 8:55pm, according to a statement from the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).

“All passengers and crew are safe, with no injuries reported,” the authority confirmed.

The aircraft remains at the scene as recovery operations continue.

Officials have not yet disclosed the cause of the incident.

Despite the scare, airport operations at Wilson continued without disruption.

KAA said normal services were maintained, underlining the airport’s preparedness to handle emergencies.

Wilson Airport is one of the busiest in East Africa, handling domestic and regional flights, as well as private and training aircraft.

Incidents involving aircraft veering off runways are rare but are treated with high priority due to aviation safety standards.

Investigations into the incident are expected to provide further details in the coming days.
