Inside Martha Koome, Gachagua love-hate relationship

Mr Gachagua despite being impeached, has gone right ahead to refuse to die politically, currently commanding Mt Kenya voting block in a cultic grip.

It now emerges that besieged Chief Justice Martha Koome and former Deputy President Mr Rigathi Gachagua rely on each other to save themselves.

Mr Gachagua has sued the process that was used to hound him out of office in October 2024 while Ms Koome is facing deft machinations to remove her from office.

It should not be lost that CJ Koome is the President of the Judiciary which should it find former DP's arguments holding water, can save Mr Gachagua's political career that risks being suspended for 10 years by helping for the impeachment to be quashed.

On the other hand, Mr Gachagua despite being impeached, has gone right ahead to refuse to die politically, currently commanding Mt Kenya voting block in a cultic grip.

To that end, Ms Koome who comes from Mt Kenya can immensely benefit from political support from Mr Gachagua who has since vowed to ensure President William Ruto who financed his impeachment is kicked out of office in 2027.

The two--Ms Koome and Riggy G-- are said to have been good friends when he was the second in command.

According to one of Mr Gachagua lawyers who asked not to be named, when the impeachment politics became obvious that they would be effected, Mr Gachagua's allies reached out to Ms Koome.

"We approached her and explained to her that the impeachment was part of a wider scheme to control 2027 General Election. We were candid that we were privy to a plot that the system wanted to put in place that will pack all institutions with a hand in elections with friendly people," the advocate said.

The lawyer did not specify whether the Gachagua team met Ms Koome in person or through a third party.

"It is not important to know whether we met her in person or not. What is important is that I reveal to you that we tried to save Gachagua through all means possible," the advocate said.

The legal mind says "the plan was kick out Gachagua who had shown early signs that he wished the president to be one term. Then have the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) packed with friendly stooges. Have security institutions managed by correct allies...".

The narrative went on that "the next stop was the Supreme Court that has to be reconstituted in anticipation of the post election challenge in 2027".

The advocate challenged thus: "Mr Gachagua is already out of the way. There is pressure to kick out Inspector General of Police Mr Douglas Kanja. There are plans to create a 19,000 strong new administration police squad...The changes in the cabinet have placed interior and defence ministries in politically correct hands".

Also, the security units have been placed in the hands of deep state allied community where it controls the DCI, NIS, IPOA, EACC and even the force in the Haiti mission.

The advocate revealed that "what remains is the Supreme court and already you can see there is a petition to kick it out".

The discussions to save Mr Gachagua appeared to be heading well when conservative orders were issued to keep him in office pending further directions regarding the case he had filed, before the cases grew in numbers in different courts.

The judiciary had ensured Prof Kithure Kindiki who had been appointed by President Ruto did not immediately assume office.

"Until things went haywire. There was launched a raw fear mongering drive...state house moved its muscle left, right and centre..overbearing on everything else...forget about those fairy tales about independence of the judiciary," says a source in Judiciary.

It is not immediately known whether the subsequent disappearance from prominence from the circle of Ms Koome was related to the deep state muscle...but for some time, she was nowhere to be seen.

Her absence saw her Deputy Ms Philomena Mwilu take up the role of constituting a bench that eventually overturned the conservatory orders that saw Mr Gachagua lose control of his office.

All those aspects are now before court to be determined on their validity or lack of it, and Ms Koome is back in office albeit besieged.

Already, Mr Gachagua has made it clear that he will be opposing any move to kick Ms Koome out of office.

"This is broader scheme the president and his men are pursuing..there is no other justification in the agenda to remove her but to take control of 2027 General Election...I will not accept that," Mr Gachagua recently said.

His defence for Ms Koome was rated by those in the know to have been out of pressure by his loyalists based on tactical approach.

"Mr Gachagua has been a very pained man since Ms Koome mellowed at the great hour of his need. He felt betrayed. He has not been finding it befitting to defend her. But the question of whether Mt Kenya interests are safer with Koome in office or with a 100 percent state loyalists in office has arose and the answer is obvious,'' says a Mt Kenya politician close to the raging intrigues.

It is in such a complicated scenario that Mr Gachagua is expected to on Sunday issue a Mt Kenya direction about 2027 as Ms Koome battles onslaughts aimed at kicking her out of office.

Regarding how possible it is for judiciary to be predictable on how a case will end, our confidential advocate quips: "Go and ask them how a certain governor survived...they keep on using that case as an authority while those of us who cannot be fooled know how it happened and the cost involved".

The advocate said "at an opportune time I will write a book that will disclose all these things in details but for now you should be content with the inside tips I have given you...keep your eyes wide open as we move towards 2027".
