President William Ruto’s visit to Murang’a County on Friday marked a continuation of his efforts to establish a unity government.
Amidst opposition and scrutiny, he defended his decision and called for cooperation across party lines.
Ruto emphasized the importance of inclusivity, while also holding certain leaders accountable for their resistance.
The nation awaits the impact of this ‘broad based’ government, hoping for positive change.
Dr Ruto accompanied by several newly appointed Cabinet Secretaries (CSs), continued his tour in the Murang’a County.
The President reiterated his commitment to the formation of a unity government, a move he made swiftly in response to pressure from the Gen-Zs.
Speaking at the event, he emphasized the need for a coalition that includes opposition members and represents all Kenyans, aimed at quelling unrest and violence.
In his address, President Ruto defended his decision to create a coalition government, stating, “We must unite as a nation to address the challenges we face. This inclusive approach ensures that every voice is heard, regardless of political affiliation.”
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who had previously opposed the unity government, now stands in support of President Ruto’s vision.
“We are all part of this journey,” Mr Gachagua affirmed.
However, President Ruto did not shy away from pointing fingers.
He criticized some leaders within the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition for opposing his earlier plan to raise taxes.
“Now is the opportune time for them to join us. Those who call me Zakayo should join me in collecting taxes,” he asserted, following the swearing-in of former ODM chairman John Mbadi as the National Treasury CS in a ceremony at State House, Nairobi on Thursday.
As the debate over the unity government continues, all eyes are on the newly formed Cabinet to see if it will bring about meaningful change or whether it will maintain the status quo.
The president’s comments resonate with a nation seeking stability and progress, even as tensions remain high.
