.r-0.loaded{visibility:visible;top:50vh;width:50px}</style>The second cohort of the Machakos Youth Empowerment Programme reported today to the Machakos Youth Training Camp in Machakos Town.

A total of 1,500 youths, up from 1,000 trainees in 2025, have been admitted into the programme.

The trainees will undergo a three-week residential training, during which they will be instilled with discipline and life skills before proceeding to eight different vocational training areas, in which they will pursue courses of their choice.

Speaking to the press during the reporting exercise, the Machakos County Executive Committee Member for Education, Dr Consolata Mutisya, said the trainees were recruited from all 40 wards across Machakos County.

Dr Mutisya noted that most of the beneficiaries come from humble and disadvantaged backgrounds, adding that the programme aims to empower youths with practical skills that will improve their livelihoods and reduce unemployment in the county.

One of the trainees, Lenah Mutinda from Kalama Sub-County, expressed her gratitude to the County Government of Machakos, saying the programme had restored her hope for a better future.

Parents who accompanied their children to the training camp could not hide their joy after their sons and daughters were selected for the highly competitive programme.

The County Government has further assured residents that it plans to increase the number of recruits in the coming years in order to meet the growing demand for vocational training among youths in Machakos County.
