Former Meru Governor Peter Munya has castigated Interior CS Kithure Kindiki over cattle rustling that has become rampant in the Nyambene region in the county.
Mr Munya highlighted several instances where bandits attack at will, steal livestock of innocent herders and even kill them in Nyambene region, but no serious action has been taken.
"Our people have been made poor. There are so many burials every now and then emanating from banditry attacks. We won't sit and watch poverty strike our people due to a government that does not care. Security was so tight here when I was the governor as well as CS Agriculture," Mr Munya said after opening a Party of National Unity (PNU) office at Nturuba in Tigania East, Meru County.
He said the MPs are now stooges of stamping authority by passing oppressive Bills like the Finance Bill, 2024, and motions like impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua among others without questioning.
"Our MPs have been made stooges… their only thing is saying and voting 'yes'. They have no idea or interests for mwananchi. Can you imagine they had voted yes to the detrimental Finance Bill? Why stoop too low instead of keeping in touch with reality? They have now developed a Bill to extend the term of elected leaders from the current Constitution's five(5) to seven(7) years," Mr Munya said.
Mr Munya also took on his seemingly new rival Mithika Linturi, saying he is incompetent to run for the Meru gubernatorial seat in 2027 because he was sacked as Cabinet Secretary.
Mr Linturi has previously blamed the political troubles in Meru on Mr Munya, who had endorsed current Governor Kawira Mwangaza in 2022.
Mr Munya gave Ms Mwangaza a one(1) week ultimatum to do away with a restaurant being put up at Muthara Level 4 Hospital, terming it a public health hazard.
“The hospital board has leased out a building within the hospital for a restaurant. This is against the Public Health Act. The governor should stop this project because the facility will also be used as a conduit to steal hospital equipment,” Mr Munya said.
