Interior and National Administration CS Kipchumba Murkomen has directed County Commissioners and Security organs across the country,to arrest anyone planning violence ahead of the 2027 elections regardless of their political affiliation.

Mr Murkomen strongly condemned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's recent statement that the country risks a repeat of the 2007/08 bloodshed as dangerous and irresponsible.

Speaking at a funeral in Matisi, Kitale on Saturday, the CS said such talk was reckless and his office will not sit back and watch the country descend to violence.

“Stating that the 2027 elections will be marred by more violence than the 2007 elections is dangerous. People lost loved ones in the violence, some have not recovered from the trauma of that loss. This kind of talk is enough to bar a person from holding any public office," said CS Murkomen.

The CS further warned the former Deputy President that he shouldn't make a personal loss of position look like a national crisis.

“Don't harm the entire country because of your political problems. People will not die for you to occupy office,” the CS said.

But to put in context, Mr Gachagua said the nominees for the position of chairperson and commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) should not impose a leader on Kenyans as a result of rigging.

"Going by the mood in the country, If IEBC tries to rig in 2027, 2007 will look like a Christmas Party," Mr Gachagua said on Friday during a live interview with Obinna Show.

Mr Murkomen assured the nation that under his watch, the country will not experience a repeat of the 2007/08 post-poll violence.

He termed the 2007 experience a lasting lesson for the country.

The CS directed the Trans-Nzoia County Commissioner and the security team in the county to ensure every politician who sponsors goons and political thuggery is brought to justice.

He also alleged that Mr Gachagua infiltrated the Gen Z-led protests against the Finance Bill, 2024 causing violence in June 2024.

The CS claimed that he (Gachagua) escaped because “he was hiding behind the young people.”

Commenting on the violence that rocked Mr Gachagua's political party launch in Nairobi on Thursday, the CS said he has been briefed by the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja that the investigations are ongoing and that “everyone who was involved in the violence will be brought to book”.

The CS said he will not allow President William Ruto's tenure to be marred by violence.
