A police officer was on Wednesday arrested after he lost his government-issued firearm to rogue boda boda riders after a drinking spree along Eastern Bypass.
Police Constable Peter Mburu, accompanied by his friends on Tuesday at around 9:30pm, visited a drinking joint in Mihang'o along Eastern Bypass near the National Police College Campus where they enjoyed their drinks.
The group then moved to a nearby joint to continue indulging until 2am when they parted ways.
According to a police report, Mr Mburu is said to have been accosted by two people on a boda boda while on his way to his parents' residence at Green Court in Mihang’o.
“Following a back and forth, the boda boda riders stole a Ceska pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, a wallet containing a certificate of appointment, bank cards and also a mobile phone,” the report read in part.
Thereafter, the officer reported the incident at the nearby station.
Officers attached to Mihang’o and DCI Kayole team visited the scene and the two joints the cop and his friends visited.
Later, the officers visited the residence of Mr Mburu’s parents at Green Court.
The officer’s wife also confirmed that the officer left the house while armed in the morning.
Officer Mburu, who appeared intoxicated, was placed in custody to assist with the investigations.
During interrogation, the officer failed to pinpoint the location of the alleged incident. He also had visible bruises on his mouth, elbows and on the right knee with torn trousers and a T-shirt.
Investigations have since been launched to retrieve the firearm.
