Police officer arrested after fatal shooting incident in a Githurai bar

Detectives on Sunday arrested a police officer after he allegedly shot and killed a man in Githurai.
The officer based at Kimbo Police Station was placed in custody on suspicion of murder after a 24-year-old man died of gunshot wounds.
According to a report lodged at Githurai Kimbo Police Station, the victim, John Mutembei, died while receiving treatment at Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital after being shot at Goteana Bar in Githurai Kimbo.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.
Following reports of the shooting, officers from Githurai Kimbo Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) responded to the scene.
At the hospital, they also confirmed Mutembei's died from gunshot wounds.
His body was taken to the mortuary at the same facility for an autopsy.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Mutembei was rushed to hospital by good Samaritans after the shooting.
Authorities are now investigating the exact sequence of events leading up to the fatal shooting at Goteana Bar.
A firearm believed to have been used in the incident has been confiscated and will be used as evidence in the investigation.
The suspected police officer is currently in custody and is expected to appear in court on Monday to face formal charges.
