14 positions open in Machakos KUPPET branch elections on Saturday

KUPPET Machakos branch elections are set for Saturday under the 2025-amended constitution, expanding from 10 to 14 positions including those for PWDs, youth, gender, and junior secondary representatives. All members urged to vote.

At least 14 positions are up for grabs in the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) elections in Machakos branch slated for Saturday (today January 10).

The added positions in the new Kuppet constitution up from the original 10 positions include position for People Living with Disabilities (PWDs), position for Junior Secondary school representatives and positions for Youth and gender.

Speaking on Friday at his office in Machakos, Kuppet Executive Secretary Mr Musembi Katuku said all was set for the election on Saturday and urged all members to turn up and vote for their preferred candidates.

Mr Katuku said he expected at least two-thirds of about 6,300 members in the County to turn up and vote, adding that he was confident of retaining his position as Executive Secretary having rendered exemplary service to the teachers over the years.

"Machakos Kuppet branch elections are coming up on Saturday. We have 14 positions open in the new amended constitution. Initially we used to have 10 positions but now in the constitution amended in 2025, we have four more positions," said Mr Katuku adding that the elections will be free and fair.

He assured that Kuppet had made adequate provision for security for the elections which will be presided over by the Ministry of Labour.

Machakos is the first County to hold the Kuppet elections under the amended constitution. The elections will take place in other counties up to March this year.

"All positions are open and contested. I am in the race. I have done my groundwork and anybody contesting for the Executive Secretary position must be prepared. It is not an easy task. I am seasoned and I have no reason to worry. I have also given my service to members to the best of my knowledge," said Mr Katuku whose office was a beehive of activity as he attended to teachers.
