Attack on Senator Osotsi: Three suspects arrested in Kisumu
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested three suspects in connection with the April 8 attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi at Java House, West End Mall in Kisumu.
The suspects — Carlos Owiti alias Kalonje (24) from Nyalenda, Eric Otieno alias Dude (39) from Manyatta, and Vincent Odhiambo alias Tinga (27) from Nyalenda — are in custody and are being processed for arraignment, police said.
Investigators continue to pursue additional suspects linked to the attack.
Details of the Wednesday attack
According to eyewitnesses and official accounts, Senator Osotsi was in Kisumu on Wednesday for a routine haircut in the Acacia area before heading to Java House, where he met a friend and interacted with members of the public.
A group of assailants confronted him, questioned his political stance, and launched a violent assault.
His security team exercised restraint given the crowded public setting.
He was initially treated at Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu and later airlifted to Karen Hospital in Nairobi for specialised treatment.
Medical sources and leaders who visited him described him as stable but nursing serious injuries.
DCI statement on arrests
In an official release, the DCI thanked members of the public who provided useful information and urged continued cooperation as detectives follow leads and review CCTV footage from the scene.
“Our detectives remain fully committed to getting to the bottom of this matter… Members of the public will be kept informed as investigations progress,” DCI said.
Leaders visit and condemn assault
Political and civic leaders from across Kenya have visited Senator Osotsi at Karen Hospital and condemned the attack.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka was also among leaders who visited the lawmaker and warned against political violence as a tactic to silence voices.
Democratic Action Party of Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa joined in condemning the attack.
He called on security agencies to act swiftly.
Several other MPs and county leaders described the incident as “cowardly” and unacceptable, emphasising that violence has no place in Kenya’s democratic space.
The arrests mark a significant development in a case that shocked the country and drew condemnation across the political divide.
With the Senator still hospitalised and more suspects being sought, all eyes are now on law enforcement to translate leads into swift justice, even as leaders continue to monitor his recovery and call for accountability.
