A man desperate for a breakthrough into the disciplined forces thought he had finally struck gold.

Instead, he walked straight into a costly trap.

Detectives in Kayole have arrested a Police Recruit Constable accused of masterminding a slick con that left a member of the public Sh687,000 poorer, after allegedly promising to secure a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) employment letter.

According to police reports, the suspect, identified as Kipkoech Isaac, approached the complainant on November 12, 2025, with what investigators describe as a “tantalising” offer.

He allegedly claimed he could deliver an official KDF employment letter—for a price.

Convinced this was his lucky break, the complainant paid Sh687,000 of the agreed Sh700,000.

Moments later, the promise began to unravel.

“No sooner had the money changed hands than the suspect vanished into thin air,” investigators said.

They added that his phone went silent, leaving behind “shock, betrayal and empty promises.”

The victim later reported the matter to police, triggering a manhunt that eventually led detectives to an unexpected location—the National Police College, Embakasi A campus.

There, officers arrested Kipkoech, who is a police recruit, bringing the months-long search to an end.

Police say the suspect is now in custody undergoing processing and is expected to be arraigned in court.

Detectives have warned members of the public to be wary of individuals claiming they can secure jobs in the disciplined services.

They insist that all recruitment into the KDF and other security agencies follows formal, transparent procedures.
