The Council of Governors (CoG) has condemned the manner in which Tana River Governor Dhadho Godhana was arrested on Saturday.
The Council of Governors (CoG) has described it as an arbitrary action by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) sleuths.
According to a press statement by the CoG, the governor was arrested at his residence, raising questions about the legality of the operation.
"We strongly condemn such bullying in no uncertain terms," said CoG Chairperson Ahmed Abdullahi, referring to the incident as a violation of Governor Godhana's rights under Article 29 of the Constitution.
The CoG noted that the governor, as an elected state officer, should not have been subjected to such treatment.
Abdullahi further urged DCI to follow proper channels when summoning governors.
"This request should have been communicated through formal channels," said Mr Abdullahi who was elected CoG chair last week.
The Council reiterated its commitment to working with the Ministry of Interior to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Governor Godhana and Galole MP Said Hiribae were arrested by DCI over ongoing violence in Tana River County.
The two(2) had earlier allegedly ignored summons by the DCI.
DCI boss Amin Mohammed said.
Four(4) more people were
reported killed in Tana River clashes on Saturday (today), death toll rising to 18.
