The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rainfall is expected in several parts of the country this week, cautioning residents to stay alert and take safety measures.

In its seven-day forecast (October 21–27, 2025), the department said rainfall will intensify over the Central Highlands, including Nairobi, as well as the Rift Valley, Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, the South-eastern Lowlands, and parts of North-western Kenya.

“Isolated heavy rainfall events may occur over some parts of these regions. Residents are advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions,” the department said on Tuesday.

The weatherman warned that the rains could trigger flash floods and landslides in low-lying and hilly areas, and called on county governments to clear drainage systems to prevent flooding and road blockages.

According to the forecast, daytime temperatures above 30°C are expected in the Coastal, North-eastern, and North-western regions, while parts of the Central Highlands and Rift Valley will experience cold nights below 10°C.

Last week, Eldoret recorded the highest 24-hour rainfall amount of 40mm, while Mandera registered the highest daytime temperature at 38°C. The coldest night was in Nyahururu, at 4.6°C.

Residents have been urged to monitor weather updates through official advisories and avoid crossing flooded roads.
